So is there really a difference in the way you perceive circumstances in your life? Yes, However... The Word of God, research, and common sense tells us that we should have hope in the midst of circumstances. We have a hope as an anchor of the soul. The same Word of God, more research, and common sense also tells us not to gloss over the reality of the situation you find yourself in. Pain is painful. Sickness takes a toll on your body. Hurtful words cut deep. Thankfully, we have a Balm in Gilead, a Healer, and a Great Physician that tends to our every need.
"Psalm 62:5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him." There must be a healthy balance of living in reality and believing by faith. Why else would we need to find rest unless we were run down, tired, and overwhelmed.
So if your glass is running half full, it's time to add to your cup until it overflows. If it seems half empty, maybe you should consider emptying yourself into his arms of hope.
